JMT's Response to the Community

Jack Moffat Trust is based in Fairview, a low density area of Mufulira District, on the eastern side of the town. It caters for a mixture of populations which include the poor and marginalized of Chobolya and Mupambe townships situated to the east and north of Mufulira town respectively.The community consists of about 20,000 people including 500 orphans and other children in desperate situations. 50% of the communities in this catchment area are those who have either been retired or retrenched from the mines following privatization of the industry. The high levels of unemployment have exacerbated the problems of alcoholism and prostitution and their offshoot of HIV/AIDS.

Amidst all these difficulties, Jack Moffat Trust has managed to establish a thriving community school section in its set up, where the orphaned and vulnerable children receive free education. Various forms of nutritional and health care programs, aimed at educating the children and the community, have also been taken on board.
