Scholl

(Jmt Pupils and Voluntreers Enertaining the Elders)

In this program, the main activities include:

1.1 HIV/AIDS Education

The program uses performing art and drama to sensitize the youths and the community about the HIV/AIDS pandemic. Once every School term, drama performances are conducted at selected venues in the community for this purpose. Training of educators for HIV/AIDS awareness campaigns is also provided for in this program.

In addition, JMT supports the ongoing government healthy campaigns including the immunization and anti-malaria programs. JMT avails its volunteers to help out in mosquito net distribution exercises and in mobilization of school children for immunizations.

1.2 Nutrition

10 chronically ill infants in Chibolya and Mupambe townships of Mufurila are identified. Training in healthy hygiene is given to their caregivers. Once every week, the caregivers are gathered within their localities for a forum covering a range of healthy related issues such as nutritional cooking, HIV/AIDS, reproductive healthy and infant care. As enough knowledge is gained, the caregivers are graduated from the program and new infants are received into the program.

1.3 Income generating

Children are directly involved in income generating ventures such as gardening and poultry, not only as a way of imparting life skills, but also to guarantee sustainable nutrition for the orphaned and vulnerable children (OVCs) especially those infected or affected with HIV/ AIDS that are under JMT support.

Immediate needs for this program:

• HIV/AIDS/TB/Malaria campaign materials (e.g. mosquito nets)
• Volunteers to train HIV/AIDS Peer Educators.
